Sometimes.... I accept commissions from people who want a painting of their house, or shed, or boat, because I understand that people want a painting of those things, as they hold a high sentimental value. Most people approach me, rather than others, as my paintings offer great value for money. So I do them... sometimes.

However, I prefer an open brief, perhaps something like, "Can you paint me London?". With an open brief like this, you will receive an abstract painting, that reveals more about me as a Painter, than a painting representing an object, or landscape.

The other bonus of asking me to do a painting for you, is that if you don't like it, then you don't take it. But, before I begin painting, we need to have a conversation about what your expectations are: what size you want the painting to be; and are there colours that you particularly want to see. It would be worth looking through my work to identify what you do like, in order to give me an indication of your need.

Occasionally, my mind is set on something else, or I have no desire to paint a dog at that particular time and I may refer you to someone else. Although, don't let that put you off contacting me.

How much will it cost?

Prices vary. But this will be discussed after having a conversation with you about what it is that you want. I enjoy painting, so if I like the 'ask', then I'm going to want to do it. I'd rather it be on your wall than in storage with me. That said, please be respectful, paintings can take anywhere from 2 hours for a small, quick, sketchy piece, to 40+ hours for a large piece. Ask yourself: how much you earn an hour?; how much does the paint and surface I'm painting on cost?; how big do you want the painting to be?; how much contact and photos of work in progress do you require from me during its creation?; how much is the packaging and delivery going to cost? In the past, I've had clients give me the canvas that they want me to paint on. They have also picked up the work themselves. All of this will give you an indication of how much I charge.

What if I don't like it?

Again, if you don't like it, then don't take it. It's simple. Before I send the painitng to you, I will send you a high resolution photo for you to review and approve. It's only ever happened once, where a client wanted to return a painting to me. When they saw it in real life, they didn't like the colour red in the painting. Something like that is impossible to change, as my abstract paintings explore colour and include cadmium red as the primary colour, in order to balance the piece. All my work is completed using the three primary colours that I mix to make every other colour. I use white to give tone. Therefore, you can expect me to use the foundation (primary) colour in the painting somewhere, as I want to give you a story of colour and paint. Abstracts will also have other media included. Sometimes metallic paints and glosses, or even copper coins.
